‘5000’
is the limited amount of friends you can have on Facebook before you go on to
open a celeb page for yourself where you can have unlimited likes.
Your
Facebook ‘5000’ are like your tribe members.
They
consist more of your friends and true fans. Most of them actually went out of
their way to look for you especially when you were still coming up. They
searched for you on Facebook so they could ask to be your friend.
They
are your initial, original and first crowd.
You
shouldn’t ignore them. Also remember
that though twitter seems to be the ‘hot stuff’ right now but it’s more of a PR
tool while Facebook is more about building relationships and getting connected.
So if you want to start building fan
relationships, you better start face-ing
your book
1.
Collect their email addresses. Yahoo has a way
whereby you could collect email addresses of your facebook contacts directly
from your facebook page.
What
to do with this email addresses?
Send them latest news and
developments about you. You could compile this in a simple newsletter. Send
them links of website where you are been featured and talked about so they
could follow up.
2.
Say happy birthday: Whenever you are on Facebook
and you find out on the home page that there is a list of your friends who it’s
their birthday, do not hesitate to send them a ‘Happy Birthday’ message by writing
on their wall. Facebook has made things easy and you don’t have to go visit
each celebrant’s wall, you could easily type and send a birthday message from
your home page. It doesn’t hurt nor will it take much time to say ‘happy
birthday’. Better still, you could send a special birthday card, birthday song
or just a song of yours to their email addresses.
3.
Chat when you can: I believe you should create some
time (depending on how busy you are) in the week to chat one on one with your
fans. This is about building a fan-artist relationship. This would really go a long
way, for word would spread about how humble
and sweet they think you are. And you
know word of mouth publicity is strong publicity.
4.
Reply all necessary messages: Always check your Facebook
message thread. Who knows? You might have a message that could help lift your
career forward. You are also on Facebook for connections, so get connected. Try
to reply fan message whether it’s about enquiries or just complimentary, two to
three lines are enough. You could even get ideas about how best to please your
fans right from them -via their messages.
5.
Don’t ignore the writings on the wall. I mean don't ignore wall posts and comments. You could at
least ‘like’ them.
6.
Link them to your other active social media
accounts (like twitter, Linked in, Pinterest, Tumblr) and your own website.
7.
Do not relegate them, always give them info and
let them be a part of every promo and action that go on in your music career-
for we have not all moved to twitter. Face book still has its millions of faithful.
If
you are a new music artiste and do not have a crazy busy schedule just yet,
this shouldn’t be impossible for you to do. You have to create time for this. Busy running
around cooking music and distributing them are not the only key activities to
pushing your music career forward. What
about a growing fanbase to whom the success of the music highly depends on? It is easy. You can create a work schedule and build in a ‘fan
time’ into this schedule. Also if you
are not the social media type or you are extremely busy, then you can employ
the services of a music marketing company like Entertainment Ideaz (Click). We would help you manage your social networks
and with other relevant music marketing necessities.
You
have to learn to socialize, at least communicate. You can’t be into
entertainment and say you are too shy to relate with people or you don t want
to talk to people you don’t know.
