Think Before You Tweet

Tweet your way to the top and not away from it.

To think before you tweet seem impossible but it is very necessary that most times your tweets are premeditated and should contribute to the advancement of your career especially as an upcoming artiste.

Twitter’s plan is to get you to tweet as many times as possible and that’s why that box can only take 140 characters.  The positive side of this is that you would learn to be precise with your message and the negative is that you might misuse this privilege and tweet as many thoughtless, meaning less nonsense.

Your whole social media communication should be a part of your marketing plan.  This does not necessarily mean you should have an animated online marketing campaign but it actually means every tweet, post or picture should be consistent with your brand and towards achieving your marketing goals.

You are not Rihanna.  Rihanna has a large fanbase already.  You on the other hand are still growing your fanbase so you can’t afford to wake up and tweet just anything.

Remember, one tweet could make you while also one tweet could mar your image.

Here are a few tips on helping you getting the best out of your tweets:

Always try to pause for a moment and think before you post your tweet. Think: what reaction do I want to get? What message do I want to communicate? Will this cause a stir and get me more appropriate attention? Is this consistent with my music brand?   Try to make this process a habit.

You don’t always have to tweet the exact words on your mind– you might need to twist, reconstruct or use milder words.  Try to explain what you mean in plain words. You don’t want to be misjudged except you intentionally want to be- which is actually pre-planned.

Reserve your thoughts at first if you are about to air your view on a sensitive matter.  You might need to even wait a few days before you air your view. Your message will sound better and make more impact if you put it in the cooler of your mind for a while.

Don’t be in a hurry to tweet when you are highly emotionally; Say for example when you are angry or depressed.  When you are emotional, you probably are not thinking straight and your tweet might not produce something good.  So as not to cause damage or always having to apologize, don’t hit your keypad immediately.

Get a professional (that is, an online promoter, PR person or Publicist) to handle your social media package.  This person should be an expert and should help tweet your brand to success and fame.  You could get one on a part time basis so the other times, you could also do your own tweets so as to keep that personal relationship with your fans.  But if you know you are not good at communication, say for example: you have a short fuse, you can’t spell much, or can’t express yourself well, then you must get a professional to help you. It is very necessary you communicate.

Avoid insulting your fans - just reply them as appropriately as possible.
Fans will always be fans.  Sometimes, they’ll have that nut in their heads loosen and begin to throw jabs at you.  You just have to learn to be able to manage this kind of situation.  Its either you ignore or find a way to turn it around to favor you and your career.  Fighting your fans is like fighting your customers. Don’t let them get to you.

Don’t mix up your personal matter with your music brand affairs, if you can’t handle it.  You might get confused.  Your gift is different from ‘you’.  Do yourself a favor, save ‘you’ to have a life.  One ‘time’ is for the music and the fame while the other is for sanity and personal peace.

If you are very itchy about sharing your personal experiences all the time, then you can have a personal twitter handle with your real name on it and a music brand handle.  There on the personal twitter handle, you can tweet and swear about “how early morning knacking is the best”.
