An Entertainer is an Entrepreneur

The average entertainer is an entrepreneur- he just hasn’t realized it yet. He hasn’t realized that most of the activities he engages in and that are geared towards moving his career forward are related to that of an entrepreneur.

An entrepreneur is:

A creator/administrator who starts, runs or manages a business

Every activity of the music artiste, from raising capital to showcasing his music work is creative and business wise.

A strategist with the task of turning a business idea into reality

A music artiste is a strategist who wants to turn his idea of pursuing his music career into reality and ensuring it makes profit.

An innovator who market and sells his innovation

Most music artistes are innovators. They are innovative with their music and how they communicate their music brands.

The average entertainer possesses basic qualities which also qualify him as an entrepreneur and they are: Vision, Passion, Determination, Creativity, Self-confidence, Flexibility, “Smarts”, and Leadership.

So, Why Not?

The Entertainer, the Entrepreneur

In an organized setting, it is the artiste who hires and fires the manager, publicist and likes.   Hence, he should learn to be the boss or key partner.  He should learn to make decisions and build a team.  He should gain knowledge on legal matters. He should be prepared for the business part of his career.   History has taught us that it is not wise for an artiste or person of talent to leave the entirety of the affairs and decision making in his career to his manager.  An artiste should be involved in one way or the other.  He should at least have a basic understanding of the activities that occur in his music career.  A music artiste should identify and step into his shoes of leadership, director and creator.

As an entertainer, you need to have an idea and an understanding of what they say at these business meetings.  Learn to negotiate and learn to identify what the problem is in your career and which business solution you should embark on.

An entrepreneurial approach to your career or music business will keep you on top of things and activities in your career.  You should not be in the dark regarding the activities that occur in your career.

The current trend of music artistes building their own teams and flaunting their own labels is enough evidence that reveals that the average Nigerian entertainer is entrepreneurial in nature.

Indeed, an entertainer is an entrepreneur, hence an ‘entretainer’.

Music Business Workshops tagged ‘Entretainership Sessions’

The ‘Entretainership Sessions’ is a Talentz Bank entrepreneurial project for entertainers.  It is a series of workshops aimed at preparing the entertainer for the music business.

The ‘entretainership sessions’ is a virtual one for now and will hold on the ‘Talentz Bank’ blog twice in a month; that is on the 1st and the 3rd Monday of every month.   It is according to our mission at Talentz Bank which is ‘to help the average Nigerian music artiste turn from talent to cash’.   The key goal of these virtual workshops is to make entrepreneurs out of entertainers.

Some of the areas of the ‘entretainership session’ will touch, ranges from finance to image management,  branding, legal, management, music marketing and many more areas that relate to the entertainer’s.  Topics will address issues at hand that concern the typical music artiste especially the new and upcoming music act.  Eventually he will learn:

2.     To build a system/structure for their music career/business

3.     To protect his/her creative works
4.     About management
5.     How to position him/herself as an expert
and many more.
