#10 wrong reasons why you should do music

1.      That if you are a broke youngster (with no clue about music), then music is the way out and you’ll someday find a marketer who will buy your crap.

If you believe this then you are on a long thing with a sharp tip. Going into music business to make profit is not a bad one. You could be lucky. There is money in music and well, you have to know the Nigerian music business terrain. But if you are a broke person who suddenly picks up a singing career just because some existing music artistes sang that they were broke and now they are rich, maybe you need to ask them how long they’ve been into music and when they eventually made profit. And they can actually do music- well at least some element of it.

2.     The sporadic movement from the bottom of the food chain to the top of the ladder via the use of your talent

I understand that the state of economy of the nation takes a toll on its citizens and most times when people move from a lower level of finance to an upper one, they always want to tell about it. Yeah, music artistes singing about how tough things used to be, well everyone has a story.  Music is not the only way out of poverty and it is not the only way up the food chain.

3.     The girls, the cars, the big house and the crazy partying is your only dream

That is not exactly a wonderful dream. Popular music artistes are getting beyond this. If you should be doing music and are dreaming like this, take a break and set a goal for yourself. And if you can’t, there’s a problem because you might wane out along the way.

4.      Do you have a passion for music? Or you just want to be a musician for the fun of it though you can’t sing?

If truly, you do have a passion for music, what aspect of music would you like to be involved in? What kind of music would you want to do?

Stop wasting your little cash on trying to do music if you know you don’t exactly know music nor love it but that you just love the fame that comes with being a music artiste.

5.     Is music is the way to your ‘salvation’?

This is the idea that if you just do music and ‘blow’ that’s the end of all your sorrows. If you love music, you will primarily derive satisfaction from being able to sing and be heard by any size of audience. Yeah, there is the urge for more- more fans, more money, more opportunities, but you should find fulfillment in what you do, as long as you are doing it.  If you venture into music because you feel it is some kind of huge way to the best life you could have, then you might get disappointed along the way.

6.     Stop dreaming it, start working it. Artistes are not lazy.
Please erase that idea that a music career is for lazy people. Our industry has gone past that. Do not be deceived by the music videos and crazy lifestyle.  People are working- crazily working. Opportunities abound.

7.     That fraud and music now go hand in hand.
If you are looking for quick money, then you are in the wrong career line. And if you are into fraud and doing music, you are killing the industry for everybody.

Also, music artistes should stop doing songs that indicate the promotion of anti social behavior like fraud. This is seriously affecting the mentality of young people in this country; music like this is doing serious damage to these young minds.

Fraud and music don’t mix.

Please, 8, 9 and 10 are in your care. Please share. Thanks.
