     Music Brand Exhibition

‘Exhibition’ is an effective promotional tool used by organisations to create market awareness, enhance company image, test market reaction to new brand concepts, give out persuasive information about its image or merchandise to prospective customers, and direct on-site sales solicitation.

In the corporate world, a service providing company usually relies on a marketing tactic like exhibition to showcase its service offering to the public since a service is intangible (can’t be seen or touched).  A music artiste offers service and you need to find ways of making YOU visible and be well perceived.  This is one.

I believe ‘exhibition’ could also be effective for promoting music and music artiste. ‘Music brand exhibition’ involves you as an artiste showcasing yourself, you and your music; to communicate your music brand –all that you are about as a singer.  Artiste can exhibit at his own event–whether album launch, project launch, music concert or tour) or major events (music concerts, major shows) where you are billed to perform.

Benefits of exhibiting include:

Exhibiting at events where you are billed to perform (especially in a corporate environment) offers the artiste one of the best ways to get his music in front of prospective fans.  It opens the door for future communications - a door that sometimes is very difficult to get a marketing representative or manager’s foot into.

Exhibiting at an artiste’s own event–whether album launch, project launch, music concert or tour will not only give the artiste the opportunity to show their brand or style of music, but also create that all important first impression.

It is very essential for new and upcoming acts launching their careers and existing artistes launching a new album or new project. One key thing is the kind of people you have invited. You should get a highly targeted, "qualified" audience that will be of benefit to your music career.
One more benefit is that it will help the music act and management make new contacts and renew old ones

‘What to do’ and ‘what is needed’ at your exhibition table or stand

Get your corner.  Do request for a space if you are billed to perform at an event especially if you are the main performing act or if your manager is the one providing all music acts performing at that particular event.  It is easier to request for a spot-you know your own little but visible corner, where you can place a banner stand with your face and name boldly printed on it.  Place the banner beside a well decorated table.

You can meet a printer to do for you a finely printed generic banner that you can use for a long time and take with you whatever you are to perform.  Then get one or two happy and good looking persons to help you sell you.

Hand out your music and promotional materials as souvenirs and especially if it’s your album launch. Your souvenir should include free CDs and whatever material you can afford to give but make sure they are branded- with your name and music. Promotional materials can be brochure, wall/pocket calendar, sticker, poster, notepads, hand bands. Or endorsed materials like notepads, notebooks etc
It’s your music. If you give it away you do not lose but gain. Think about it.

Collect data. Do seize the opportunity to.  Print and place on the table a ‘sign-up sheet’. This ‘sign-up sheet’ is for the compilation of your ‘mailing/database list’ of ‘Email, phone numbers & birthdays’.  This information can be useful in:
Inviting them to become friends with you on your social network pages
Sending of thank you notes via emails or texts
Sending invites to own shows and other events where artiste is billed to perform
Sending of relevant information regarding artiste and career movement regularly
Sending birthday messages
Sending reminders about upcoming artiste’s events/live shows

Perhaps the way to go is to announce from the stage that you are giving away free CDs to the first 25 people that sign-up on your mailing list

Hand out your card: finely printed card that contain artiste Information like website, social network links etc. This is to drive traffic to artiste’s social networks and web links. Here’s an idea, on the front cover of a card, place a catchy lyric from one of your songs and place regular contact information is on the other side.

Live sales booth: Place your music CDs (if they are out) and merchandise (like your branded T-shirts etc if you do have) on display and on sale probably at a special price during show only.

Put your CD on sale at a special price during the event only e.g offer a free CD for every 3 CDs bought

Fish for Leads:  Place a fish bowl on your table.  A Fishbowl is like the road bowls on the counter of restaurants, where people can drop in their business cards. A nice sign that mentions you will do a drawing during event for a winner to get your latest CD, if they would drop their business card into the bowl for you will encourage attendees to respond.

Give out Information: Give information about sales point where people can buy artiste CDs e.g Internet, shops. How they can access artistes other releases and
list of other interesting facts about artiste or his/her music that fans and industry people might appreciate knowing about.

Autograph signing: If people are beginning to identify with you and your music that is your music is very much out there and it is love and being accepted you can take some time to sign your autographs especially on the music CDs of fans who approached the table.
