1. Gather DATA
i. Build an Email List- This might seem to take time but it is quite rewarding.
And how do you build an email list?
You can do this at first manually by requesting for and writing down email addresses of people interested in your music- if it’s conducive. Also, do save email addresses of those who send you mails. Click on the ‘save’ button when you get a sent report after you’ve sent an email. Also, you can manage your email addresses on social networks like Reverb nation, my space and from your yahoo mail box (yahoo address book and yahoo groups.
You could have a space or set up –like a table- at your shows or shows where you are billed to perform. This table is where you sell your CDs or give out promo copies. In return you can collect data of attendees with your ‘email sign up list’ and have a place for them to write down not just their email address, but their phone numbers and birthdays as well.
i. Use your Email List
Send reminders for your shows/events where you’ll perform. Send updates about your new single and every other latest development that concerns your brand and music career. After you have emailed your fans about an upcoming show or latest development-like the release of your video-, send some text messages out to your fans, it is a much more direct way to remind them of what’s going on.
Also, with the advent of bulk text messaging, you can easily inform people interested in your music about key updates and latest developments. Do this only when necessary so you do not annoy your recipients.
The birthday info is to appreciate and remember them. Email them a special greeting or even send them the link to your special birthday song on their birthday ....they will remember your kind gesture forever! Friend, even banks send their customers birthday greetings.
Now that’s part of the activities a service offering body do to get noticed and remembered. ? You are a music artiste. You offer a ‘service’.
1. Own your own WEBSITE
What to do with your website:
i. Create a ‘link’ page on your website i.e
Create a part of your website that has got links to other interesting music related websites -especially where your music and brand is being featured- and to your social network sites.
ii. Offer free biz on your website- free C.Ds, tickets etc
iii. Offer adequate information about your brand (yourself) and your music. Why else are you on the internet? Of course, to be found and to be known.
2. Make good use of SOCIAL NETWORKS
Myspace, Face Book, Twitter, You Tube, Isound, 2shared, Google Plus, Reverbnation... the list is endless.
Take advantage of these great opportunities. I’m sure you’ve heard this statement several times that ‘the world is now a global village. So where are you in it? Many artists are already using ‘social network’ as a great way to market themselves.
Create band pages; add tracks to your music players, put up a catchy picture, invite friends...
Use all social network tools to the best of your abilities. Do blog, use videos, post bulletins, podcasts, or create groups for your fan club.
Give people a reason to come back to your pages on a regular basis by using the tools available on these sites.
‘Face book’, ‘Twitter’, ‘Reverb nation’, ‘My space’ and like sites all have millions of individuals in their individual community and not to be actively using all social networking has to offer (for free by the way) is a total waste.
